Gardening Notes
The sweet peas are doing cosmically well!!! They love the new dirt and the water and the sun. Also doing extremely well are the lupines! And the delphiniums from 6-packs took about three months to grow, but they're up and growing pretty well! Haven't seen more than a 1/2 inch budge from the hollyhocks, but I"m hoping, and what's with snapdragons? When *I* was growing up, a snapdragon was tall, exciting. These snapdragons from home depot bite.
I have to figure out a medium-height cut flower thing that will go smack in the middle of the garden and do well. The ranunculas that came up first -- about a month or more -- ago did very well but the next batch is yellowing and not even flowering. I tried stock but something ate it. And my nasturtiums are sooooo wierd. A few are huge, some are only about four inches in diameter. They are all planted in the same soil, getting the same amount of water and sun. Sheesh.
Also doing very well is the lavender. Lovely. Both the spanish and the english, although the english stuff cuts better for bouquets. Goes very well with roses. The climbing roses aren't doing very well at all; I should have gone for the old-fashioned kind. And that dirt has too much clay anyway.
